Social Network for Digital Artists –Stop Blaming Algorithms
One lesson I’ve learned over the years is to avoid blaming external factors when promotional efforts on social networks underperform. The tendency to blame algorithms is counterproductive and prevents self-improvement and strategy refinement.
Many people criticize Facebook and other social media algorithms, but this mindset halts progress. Success on social media requires a strategic approach and consistent effort. If you're not ready to invest time daily and monthly to analyze data and refine strategies, social media success may remain elusive.
Understanding Your Profile vs. Your Page
A common mistake is using a personal profile for art-related posts while neglecting a dedicated Page due to perceived algorithmic challenges. Personal profiles cater to friends and family who already support you, requiring less effort for engagement.
Conversely, a Page aims to expand your audience. Although initial engagement may be lower, a Page introduces your work to new people who may not be familiar with you, unlike a personal profile. The analogy of showing your childhood drawings to parents versus displaying your art in a gallery to strangers illustrates this difference well.
Defining a Strategy to Grow Your Page
Creating a successful Page involves strategic planning. Key steps include:
- Defining a Strategy: Think of yourself as a brand and craft a strategy answering questions like your content story, usefulness to fans, posting frequency, and overall goals.
- Measuring and Refining: Regularly analyze your efforts and refine your strategy based on the data to enhance reach and engagement.
For instance, if your goal is to showcase your art process, you might share one new illustration weekly with daily updates on progress. This not only engages fans but also offers educational value.
Measuring and Understanding
After implementing your strategy, it’s crucial to measure its impact. Avoid duplicating content across your Profile and Page; instead, tailor content for your Page and share selectively to your Profile. This distinction acknowledges the different audiences and optimizes engagement.
