Housemarque is looking for a Senior Gameplay Programmer for our next big game!
THE JOB
As a Senior Gameplay Programmer of the talented and passionate gameplay team behind RETURNAL you will work closely with a team of programmers, designers and artists to help drive the next evolution of Housemarque games.
As a Senior Gameplay Programmer your main responsibilities are architecting and implementing robust gameplay systems, as well as prototyping new gameplay ideas in close collaboration with designers and animators, to help us deliver award-winning gameplay. You will participate in the defining of coding practices and standards, and undertake code reviews to ensure these are followed. You will also be supporting other programmers and designers by providing technical mentorship and constructive feedback. In addition, your responsibilities within the team can be tailored to match your skills and interests.

What will your day-to-day look like?
• Collaborate with the wider team to understand requirements for game designs and develop appropriate specifications.
• Build and maintain high-quality C++ code.
• Work closely with designers and animators to deliver high-quality features together.
• Estimate work, track progress and shape roadmaps.
• Contribute to establishing best coding practices and standards, and conducting code reviews to maintain code quality and consistency.
• Learn new skills and develop as a professional.
What will help you to be successful in this role?
• 5+ years of experience working as a programmer in the games industry.
• At least one shipped game working as a game/gameplay programmer.
• Excellent C++ skills.
• Familiarity with commercial game engines, particularly Unreal Engine.
• A strong understanding of action gameplay design.
• Experience working in a multi-discipline team, with both technical and non-technical members.
• Independence and self-management.
• Fluent written and verbal English.
• Proactive & curious mindset.
• Passion in video games.

This is a permanent, full-time position based in Helsinki, Finland.
