PORTLAND THORNS
Founded in 2012, Portland Thorns FC have set the standard for fan support and on-field success in women’s soccer since its inaugural 2013 season. One of the world’s most supported women’s soccer clubs, Portland has led the league in attendance for eight seasons and set a new club playoff attendance record last year with 25,218 fans supporting Thorns FC in the 2023 semifinal match at Providence Park. Thorns FC have won the NWSL Championship a league-record three times (2013, 2017, 2022) and finished as runners-up in 2018. The club has made the postseason a league-high nine times and has won the NWSL Shield in 2016 and 2021.

The Role
The Portland Thorns FC are seeking a highly creative Motion Graphics Designer to join our team and create engaging digital animations and video content for targeted visual campaigns on social media, mobile and game day platforms. You will collaborate with copywriters, graphic designers, videographers, and other creative professionals to produce high-quality multimedia deliverables on schedule. The right candidate will have a background in digital design and an excellent understanding of branding and visual systems.
What You’ll Be Up To
- Conceptualize and create engaging graphic, animations, illustrations and graphic builds
- Collaborate with a team of creatives (film and video producers, directors, editors, creative directors)
- Take direction from art Director, marketing stakeholders, and other cross functional team members to deliver content and creative that answers the brief
- Collaborate with writers, animators, art directors, and other motion graphics artists on storyboards and scripts
- Assist creative services team with additional creative workflow outside the scope of motion graphics and animation, I.E. photo retouching, design production, and creative concepts
- Work both independently and in a group
- Communicate effectively with all stakeholders on each product to ensure deadlines are met
What It Takes To Be a Thorn
- Bachelor’s degree in graphic design, video production, visual effects, or a related field
- One to three years of experience in animation
- A strong portfolio exemplifying ability to tell a story through motion
- Excellent working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Adobe After Effects, Illustrator, Adobe Premiere Pro), Final Cut Pro, Cinema 4D, Blender, Maya, and other motion graphics design software Adobe CC a must, additional applications a bonus with willingness to upskill.
- Comprehensive understanding of typography and its use within graphic design
- Understanding of color theory
- Knowledge of the basic principles of design
- Knowledge of branding and visual systems
