We are looking for an experienced Senior Technical Artist/Unreal Generalist to join our flagship title, Dauntless! You bring a deep understanding of Unreal and a passion for unlocking a cross-discipline art team's potential in creating stunning gameplay, creatures, characters and worlds. You have a deep understanding of shading, materials, lighting/rendering, VFX, blueprints and optimizations. You will ensure all assets work within the scope of the technical pipeline requirements and will help us improve development processes for our cross-platform game.
Responsibilities:
- Contribute towards levelling up the end-to-end workflow for our many art disciplines, such as Characters, Environments, and real-time VFX.
- Provide technical support to artists with materials, lighting and shading.
- Collaborate with production and other Technical Artists to develop a long-term strategy for maintaining and evolving the product's art workflows.
- Create and optimize new materials for world, character, and real-time VFX teams.
- Ability to research and prototype lighting solutions with the Art Director, World Artists, and Engineers to achieve the visual fidelity needed for the game while considering game constraints.
- Provide support to Art Teams in creating assets and developing pipelines.
Requirements:
- 5+ years of experience as a technical artist in games or related industries.
- Must have prior experience in Unreal Engine.
- Must have experience developing for current and previous-gen platforms such as Switch, Xbox, PS4 and PS5.
- Experience with 3D rendering tools such as Maya and/or Blender is a bonus.
- Familiarity with blueprint and animation blueprints.
- Experience in efficient material and shader development for 3d characters, props, and environments.
- Strong art skills with experience and an understanding of modelling, shaders, texturing, & rendering for games.
- Highly proficient communication skills and capacity to act as an ambassador between art, design and engineering.
Preferred:
- Experience working with Substance Designer and Painter.
- Support for Modeling/Animation pipeline and Maya Rigging Systems & Tools.
- Runtime Rigging Systems.

Phoenix Labs believes in pay equity and we welcome conversations with candidates on how their salary expectations align with our established ranges. As you progress through the interview process, it may be determined that your experience might align better with a higher/lower level of position than you originally applied for and, should that happen, we will discuss the new pay range with you before moving forward with additional interviews or an offer.
Phoenix Labs covers the cost of basic medical for employees and their dependents, in addition to offering generous Dental and Paramedical Services. For 2023, we match employees' contributions to their RRSP up to 5% of their salaries. Canada Pay Range
$120,000 — $190,000 CAD
