Are you passionate about fire safety and eager to launch your career in fire alarm design? OurDesigner Apprentice position has a little bit of everything. You will train with our current team and learn how to translate NFPA requirements into 2- and 3-dimensional plans. Things like proposal review, permit applications, and submittals are just a few of the things you can expect to land on your desk. You don't have to know what they are or how to do them. What you will need to have is a genuine desire to learn and a preference for detailed and skilled work. If you like the consistency that comes with following a defined process, this may be for you.
Every day will be different, but here are some of things you can expect with some regularity:
- Once trained, work independently to develop 2- and 3-dimensional plans for fire protection systems of varying kinds
- Participate in daily or weekly huddles to ensure alignment between design, sales, and operating teams
- Attend off-site project walk-throughs to ensure installation is following plan
- Develop relationships with building departments across the state; learn their different submission requirements and master the permit submittal process
Requirements:
- Experience and/or education in the construction industry is preferred but if you don’t have that, all we ask is for you to show up with a positive, "can-do" attitude, and genuine interest in learning our industry
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office is a non-negotiable must, as well an overall aptitude for embracing new technology
- Self-starter with the ability to work both independently and within a team environment
- The position requires above average attention to details, concern for the exact correctness of work, and strong commitment to tasks completed on time.
- Drivers license and access to reliable transportation. This position will regularly bring you out of the office, either to job sites or to building departments around the state
