The Role
Spry Fox is a fully remote studio within the Netflix Internal Games' ecosystem, focused on building cozy games and helping connect players in new and novel ways on the Netflix gaming platform
Spry Fox wants to make the world a happier place and we're using games to do it. We want to help people connect with their old friends and make new ones. We want to give people more ways to express and challenge themselves. But mostly, we just want to give people more ways to have fun and enjoy their lives!
The studio is now looking for a 'head of operations' to help the studio do what it does best - make awesome cozy games - while maximizing the opportunities offered by being a part of Netflix Studios
The Head of Operations will report to the Studio Co-Directors, and work closely with them to streamline studio operations. You'll focus on maintaining strong partnerships with Netflix organizations outside of Game Studio so that Spry Foxes can focus on building awesome games for players.
You'll be joining a small, ambitious team with an unusually flat organizational structure. Spry Fox doesn't believe in hierarchy, but does believe strongly in high trust, rapid communication and high velocity iteration. You'll need to check your ego at the door to make an impact at Spry Fox, but in return, you'll flex into many roles to make something truly special and create something that players really love. Change management is based on trust, not authority, and you'll need to build strong relationships to be successful in the role.
Responsibilities
• Own business operations processes, such as:
• Project Budgets and expenses. Work with finance and Internal Games Studio to allocate dollars and effort to achieve the studios' goals.
• Manage the relationships with cross-functional partner organizations (most notably: Legal, Marketing, HR, IT, and Data Science, among others.) Some very-not-exhaustive examples:
• Own vendor and procurement management, including licensing, renewals, legal & infosec assessments, and onboarding into Netflix systems and processes.
• Work closely with marketing to ensure that our games are represented accurately and effectively, and that critical promotional opportunities are being fully capitalized upon.
• Partner with Data Science to ensure that we can and will answer critical questions about our games in a timely manner, which requires anticipating what those questions will be and ensuring that the proper groundwork and QA has been performed to allow for that. And then help seek the answers we need when the time comes.
• Work with program management to advocate for Spry Fox's needs, while also helping to ensure that Spry Fox is meeting the needs of the broader business.
• Help preserve and improve our studio culture. Work with HR to support our employees and enable them to focus their efforts on what they do best - making great games.
• Serve as direct manager to a variety of developers in the studio (again, as a flat organization, ''direct management'' here is more of a mentorship role/conduit for feedback from the rest of the team / fellow problem solver / partner in strengthening the Spry Fox culture.)
• Act as a high level producer on the team. Although not necessarily a direct manager, you will bring your experience and mentorship to the Spry Fox production team to maintain and establish best practices, and help be backup when spikes in production leadership are needed.
• Oversee third-party services providing ancillary support to the studio, and take ownership of core operational functions such as integrating the studio with Corporate IT, assuring that vendors are managed and compensated appropriately, that legal agreements are in place when needed, etc.
Qualifications
• 15+ years of game development experience in the games industry, in any capacity.
• 2+ years in similar Operations leadership role
• Experience working effectively with and representing the studio's interests with central teams such as Marketing, HR, and Finance.
• Experience in mobile app development and/or managing online live services
• Experience managing remote development, coupled with the ability to oversee projects of varying scope or points in life-cycle (e.g. concept, production, launch and live services).
Bonus Skills
• Experience with cozy games / life sims
• Experience with games a service, especially MMOs
Location: Remote, US & Canada
