The ideal candidate will have a strong background in investigative reporting, experience as a correspondent for network TV, and a passion for true crime. You will be responsible for attending trials in person, delivering same-day recaps, and providing live coverage for both audio and video platforms. When not attending trials in person, you will work remotely to analyze ongoing cases, summarize key takeaways, and present them live as a correspondent.
Key Responsibilities:
• Investigate and report on high-profile criminal cases, ongoing trials, and breaking news within the true crime space.
• Attend and report from court trials, providing same-day recaps and live updates for both audio and video content.
• Secure media credentials and access to trials, navigating the logistics required to attend high-profile legal events.
• Deliver remote trial recaps when in-person attendance isn't required, analyzing court proceedings and summarizing key takeaways for the audience.
• Provide live coverage on cases via video and audio platforms, serving as a correspondent who can break down complex legal proceedings into understandable, digestible recaps.
• Collaborate with editorial and production teams to ensure accuracy, quality, and timeliness of reporting.
• Maintain an active network of contacts in law enforcement, legal fields, and court systems to stay informed on emerging and high-interest cases.
• Present on-camera with clarity and confidence, delivering engaging, concise trial summaries and key updates from the field.
• Report live from the scene of trials or other crime-related events, demonstrating adaptability and strong public speaking skills.
• Analyze trial developments and identify the most important elements to convey to an audience, ensuring stories are both informative and easy to understand.
Qualifications:
• Extensive experience as an investigative journalist, with a focus on crime reporting.
• Proven track record as a correspondent for network TV, with experience reporting live from the scene of trials or other major events.
• Ability to secure credentials and access to high-profile trials, with resourcefulness and persistence.
• Strong understanding of courtroom procedures and legal reporting, with the ability to break down complex cases into key takeaways.
• Excellent storytelling, public speaking, and communication skills for both written and live formats.
• Proficiency in summarizing trial developments into digestible content for a general audience across multiple platforms (audio, video, live broadcast).
• Comfortable with both in-person and remote coverage of trials, with experience in live recaps and same-day content delivery.
This is a unique opportunity for a seasoned journalist passionate about true crime to play a critical role in covering the most compelling stories, both in-person and remotely. If you have a knack for breaking down complex legal events, thrive under deadlines, and are comfortable delivering clear, engaging content across multiple platforms, we want to hear from you.
