Amazon MGM Studios is looking for a seasoned, dynamic Visual Effects Executive to support global production efforts on International Originals series and movies in Italy and across the EU. The Visual Effects Executive will be responsible for overseeing the budgets, schedules, and overall visual effects plans for a slate of projects. The position will work closely with internal partners, including Production, Post-Production, Business Affairs, and Creative Development teams.
Key job responsibilities
• Helping manage the visual effects needs across Europe on a demanding slate of multi-genre programming for the local Italian market and across the rest of the EU as needed and determined by the Head of VFX, Europe.
• Collaborate with local production, creative, business affairs and finance teams to support greenlighting process and prepping projects.
• Create VFX breakdowns from scripts, storyboards, and pre-vis; working alongside the production company, line producer and creative team to develop a production plan.
• Investigate emerging technology and how to apply it to projects in order to achieve creative goals; and perform statistical analysis to understand financial implications and cost efficiencies.
• Assist in the development of department databases to track all aspects of project management, vendors and talent availability pools.
• Oversee the development of custom pipelines when necessary for projects with specific creative and/or technological needs (including new technology) in collaboration with Amazon's engineering teams and existing, turn-key solutions.
• Help recruit VFX teams such as VFX supervisors, producers, production supervisor, coordinators, and editors;
• Work with VFX production teams to support the process for bid out shows, vet vendor-side teams, and award work.
• Collaborate with the legal team on vendor contracts, including delivery milestones, rebate minimums, asset ownership, and credit allocations.
• Manage weekly cost report tracking with VFX producers and Production Companies to track the overall VFX budget.
• Coordinate with internal teams to provide information and creative content that supports marketing, product placement, promotions, and publicity.
• Manage weekly delivery reporting with VFX producers and/or the Production Company to keep shows on schedule.
• Review VFX finals to ensure quality of delivered work and attend reviews as necessary.
• Identify potential production problems and work with VFX teams and the studio to resolve while preserving and achieving creative goals.
• Collaborate with the creative executives, physical production, and post departments to develop a workflow process that allows all departments to share information.
• If needed and on occasion, act as VFX Producer for projects in development, and for smaller projects during production and post.
• Establish and maintain talent relations
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
• Multiple years of experience in VFX production management roles, ideally within a studio, production company, or high-end vendor environment, working across multiple projects or genres.
• Proficient in VFX software and tools with a solid understanding of the VFX production process from script breakdown to final delivery. Strong project management skills with a proven track record of managing schedules and budgets, problem-solving production challenges, and delivering creative solutions while upholding quality standards.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for working closely with production, creative, and business teams; adept at cross-departmental collaboration.
• Familiarity with VFX trends and emerging technology, along with the ability to assess its impact on creative, budget, and schedule.
• Strong eye for quality control, with the ability to evaluate VFX work against both creative and technical standards.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Experience with global SVOD delivery workflows.
Proven experience in digital media workflows and post-production processes across various formats.
• Experience working with local guilds and unions, understanding regional requirements and standards.
• Established network and knowledge of global VFX vendors
• In-depth knowledge of both domestic and international VFX tax incentives and how they impact production budgets.
• Strong written and verbal communication abilities, adept at clear and effective collaboration.
• Outstanding organisation skills with the capacity to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
• Ability to prioritise tasks and maintain composure in fast-paced environments with projects at various stages of production.
• Demonstrated skill in implementing strategic solutions to complex production challenges.
