Overview
1047 Games began with the simple principle that people should have fun while making great games. Bucking convention and driven by a passion to create the ultimate gaming experience, Ian Proulx and Nicholas Bagamian founded 1047 Games in 2017 in their Stanford dorm room. Their love for arena shooters of the past drove them to create Splitgate, a unique sci-fi first-person shooter that adds portal guns to upend the genre.
What started as two computer science majors putting portals into a first-person shooter for a project demo has evolved into a VC-backed company which has raised more than $120MM in funding.
At 1047 Games, you’ll find a permanently remote, dedicated team of top-tier talent from some of the world’s biggest gaming and tech companies who share our founders’ vision. Grit, ingenuity, a desire to have fun, and a start up mentality define our crew. We are currently working on a brand new shooter in the Splitgate universe.
What We're Looking For:
Our ideal candidate is passionate about FPS games, has a strong foundation in hard surface design, particularly weapon functionality and visual design principles. You will be working with an experienced team of concept designers, dedicated to producing weapon concepts at the highest level.
What you will be doing:
- Collaborate with the Art Director and Leads to produce designs that meet the established art direction
- Create functional weapon designs for use by production artists
- Create thumbnails, sketches, model sheets and block in models
- Ideate weapon concepts in first person and third person cameras
- Work with Animation and Tech Art departments to discuss production needs and technical logistics to create artistic solutions
- Collaborate with 3D Artists by providing paint-overs and call-out sheets
- Work closely with production to deliver quality artwork on time
- Contribute innovative visual designs throughout pre-production and production
- Solve gameplay problems with visual solutions
What you will need to succeed:
- A strong understanding of weapon design, on both a visual and functional level
- The ability to ideate and communicate visually with 2D sketches and overpaints
- Solid foundation in 3D modeling and 3D concept design
- Ability to iterate on concepts with feedback from the Art Director and Lead Concept Artist
- Professional attitude, listening skills and an ability to take constructive criticism
- A portfolio that meets or exceeds industry standard for AAA Weapon concept art
- Self-driven, good communicator and a great team-player
- A holistic design mindset and willingness to learn
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
What will help you succeed:
- Experience with Blender
- Experience with CAD software (Plasticity, Fusion360, etc)
- Experience working on live service games creating weapon skins
- Shipped game titles
