The Assistant Designer supports the Designers in the design development process, from concept to delivery, in character license children's apparel.
ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategy & Innovation
- Assist and take direction from Designers for preliminary design research including competitive shopping analysis, fabric development, silo sketching, and art direction.
- Assist in development of initial seasonal design category in context of larger assortment.
- Stay up to date with industry trends and consumer preferences, bringing fresh ideas to the table.
- Participate in brainstorming sessions and design reviews, bringing your creative insights.
Day to Day
- Support Designers in creating Illustrator sketches.
- Support designer in Photoshop silo creation and clean up.
- Meeting Preparation - format presentation boards for meetings including account specific board format, cad templates, etc.
- Style Number Creation and Maintenance in internal PLM system
- Observe and assist in Technical Fit sessions.
- Research and coordinate fabric and trims for approval; maintain fabric/trim library.
- Recap meetings as needed – fit sessions, art reviews, etc.
Cross Departmental Responsibilities
- Sales –create and maintain sample tickets, create and maintain account specific cad templates, provide hi red photography where needed.
- Licensing – create Licensor specific line approval sheets; trouble shoot Licensor changes and support Designers in communicating with Licensing.
- Production – create Design Costing sheets; create Fabric and Trim standard templates.
Our Best Fit Candidate Would Have
- At least 3-4 years of experience in apparel design, children’s wear preferred
- Superior organizational skills and excellent communication skills
- Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines; highly detail oriented, meticulous, and creative
- Basic knowledge of garment construction, silhouettes, fabrication, and trim
- Degree in Fashion Design or related field
- Proficient in Adobe Suite – Illustrator, Photoshop
