Internship Overview
We are offering a credit-based internship opportunity for a Design Intern will who work with and support the Abrams ComicArts Design team on design implementation and assist with tasks to ensure smooth departmental workflow across all imprints. This internship offers a creative and responsible intern the potential to work on a wide range of book formats, including graphic novels, manga, illustrated pop culture books, and some young adult titles.
Key Responsibilities
- Set up design mechanicals based on templates.
- Follow process documents to prepare files for lettering and typesetting.
- Make text and design corrections to cover mechanicals and interior passes.
- Assist with shipping and scanning artwork.
- Attend and contribute to cover review meetings.
- Help create ancillary materials for use by sales, marketing, and editorial, working with the digital asset management system.
- Adapt foreign-language editions for the US market, such as choosing fonts, revising cover designs, reformatting InDesign files.
Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in a college program with a focus/major in graphic design or illustration.
- Interest in Comics, Graphic Novels, and Manga.
- Experience using the Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator) and Microsoft Outlook, Excel and Word.
- Must be detail oriented and able to work efficiently in a deadline-driven environment.
- Proactive with strong communication and collaboration skills
- Motivated to learn, grow, research, solve problems, and work closely with the design staff.
- Portfolio required.
Internship Details
- Duration: May 27th – August 15th (Summer 2025)
- Compensation: For credit only; must be enrolled in a college program offering internship credit.
Hybrid Schedule-Three days per week in-office or remote
