Duties
The Museum Specialist (Art) will perform the duties associated with collection management and adhere with the policy provisions of the Institution as outlined in Smithsonian Directive 600, the Castle Collection’s Collection Management Policy, the Unit Digitization Plan, Inventory Plan, and all other policies and plans of AHHP.
In This Position, You Will
- Maintain collections and object information within collection inventory systems or software.
- Coordinate transportation and shipment of objects between facilities.
- Ensure that museum display and storage environments are regularly monitored and meet established environmental controls.
- Serve as point of contact with the SI’s Digitization Program Office.
- Guide others in completions of tasks to support their assigned projects.
- Serves as the point of contact with the National Collections Programs.

Qualifications
Experience: You qualify for this position if you have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-07 in the Federal Service.
For this position specialized experience is defined as maintaining museum collections using collections information systems and databases; leading a team in the safe movement of a museum collection; conducting regular inventories, completing conditions assessments, and object cleaning; digitalizing a museum collection; and working with a collection of antique furniture, lighting, decorative, and fine arts.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Part-time and/or unpaid experience related to this position will be considered to determine the total number of years and months of experience. Be sure to note the number of paid or unpaid hours worked each week.
Or Education: Two full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a master's degree or equivalent graduate degree related to this position may be substituted to meet the specialized experience requirements
