The Department of Parks & Recreation (DPR) Community Arts is seeking
Fine Art Instructors for temporary part-time year-round employment to instruct and support classes in the Community Arts Unit of the Community Recreation Division (CRD).
This position will plan and facilitate a variety of art classes and workshops. We are looking for multiple instructors of a variety of media/disciplines to instruct people of all ages. Classes and activities taught vary, which includes ceramics, fine art, jewelry/metalsmithing, woodworking, sewing, crafts, painting, and drawing.
Responsibilities
Specific duties include:
- Teaching one or more classes in any of the following: Woodworking, Jewelry (metalsmithing), Sewing, Painting, Drawing, and Ceramics;
- Performing administrative duties, including developing curriculums, lesson plans, keeping track of enrollment, and attendance and collecting evaluations; and
- Developing teaching methods to accommodate different learning styles and abilities.
The ideal candidate will have good character and integrity, effective communication skills, reliable transportation, and the ability to complete tasks, take initiative, and work successfully in a team environment.
Minimum
QUALIFICATIONS
- High School Diploma/equivalent;
- 1200 hours of technical Art experience (i.e. ceramics, fine art, jewelry/metalsmithing, woodworking, sewing, crafts, painting, and drawing), including any work, volunteer, or formal art participation; and
- 50 hours of experience as an instructor.
Substitution: Additional education in a related field may be substituted for the experience requirement, with each year of post-high school education substituting for 400 hours of technical experience. However, additional education may not be substituted for the instructing hours requirement.
Desirables: Preference may be given to candidates with experience in one or more of the following:
- Teaching art to all ages, including woodshop, jewelry making, sewing, ceramics, pottery, painting, and drawing;
- Working with individuals with disabilities; and/or
- Ability to adapt to teaching methods to accommodate different learning styles and abilities.
Special Requirements
Background Check: A pre-employment criminal records check will be conducted. It may include checks of the following: criminal record, driving record, education, professional licensure, and credit history. You may be required to sign a release authorizing the County to obtain your background information.
If Selected, Staff Will Be Required To
- Provide three references, which can be in the form of a letter and attached to this application.
- Attend all required training, wear a uniform if applicable, and have the ability to lift up to 25 lbs;
- Stand and walk for a prolonged period of time during the work shift; and
- Have a bank account to accept direct payroll deposits.
Additional Information
Work Hours: May vary between 0- 30 hours per week and includes weekends. Classes are held typically in the evenings from 5pm - 9:30pm, and weekends between 10:00am - 5:00pm.
The official title for this position is Recreation Instructor III. This is a temporary occasional position. Employee is eligible for sick leave.
