This position offers a competitive salary range starting at $50,000 annually, depending on experience. Job Overview:
The Junior Graphic Designer (JGD) translates concepts and ideas to visual representations, for both print and digital media, with solid knowledge of current design software and is skilled in every step of the design process, from ideation to concept to reviews to final deliverable and application. Overseen by the Senior Graphic Designer, the JGD will own production design wherein creativity and meticulous attention to detail will be crucial. The ideal candidate will also have experience with video and animation and be willing to expand their skills. This person supports the overall design look and feel and illustration/graphic visuals for Pete & Gerry’s portfolio of brands, converting written and spoken ideas to design and helps coordinate print and digital creative solutions from concept to final delivery. The JGD works collaboratively with multiple teams across the organization to ensure accuracy and consistency throughout all mediums and brings design solutions that adhere to brand guidelines and enhance Marketing strategies and company goals. Using a strong eye for aesthetics and visual details, this person has an understanding of Branding and Marketing, as well as consumer behavior, and is able to incorporate the right style and layout for each project.
Job Responsibilities:
- Work on wide range of projects, using various software programs to visualize and develop innovative graphic designs that meet business goals
- Obtain input from managers and colleagues to ensure that designs meet expectations, express ideas accurately, and represent brand appropriately
- Work independently, as well as cooperatively with Marketing team, to meet deadlines, stay within budget, and schedule project implementation
- Partner, brainstorm, and strategize with multiple teams on a wide range of materials that include social and digital creative, POS signage, packaging, internal communications, and other marketing materials. Clearly communicate design challenges and reasoning behind design choices for solutions-oriented collaboration
- Translate strategic direction into high-quality design within established brand identity and standards
- Update and maintain internal databases for designs, photography, and video
- Prepare final mechanical files for print and digital mediums, ensuring correct file formats and sizing for optimized screen value and/or print production
- Coordinate and foster relationships with external agency and vendor partners; prepare specifications, obtain estimates, and review for final approvals
- Examine existing processes, identify opportunities and gaps, and create solutions that improve design capabilities
- Respond promptly and effectively to design requests from internal “clients”, triage projects accordingly, keep clients apprised of project progress, and clearly communicate design approach
Job Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Graphic Design, Visual Arts, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
- Experience in production design, with demonstrated ability for diligent translation of creative across multiple specifications, formats, and file types.
- Exceptional creativity and innovative design skills. Photography and animation experience highly preferred (stop frame GIF animations + technical fluid animations using After Effects)
- Experience with Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, etc)
- Demonstrate strong typography, color and layout skills. Understand hierarchy of type, leading, kerning, text alignment, typeface selection
- Intimate knowledge of different file formats for web and print and how to export for the appropriate medium.
- Highly organized with bias for timely and proactive communication and strong presentation skills
- Highly motivated self-starter who is comfortable in a fast-paced environment, adaptable to changing priorities, and able to manage multiple projects simultaneously, leveraging project management software
- Maintain technical knowledge of design programs and emerging technologies to continuously improve design processes
- Current on industry trends, with desire to continue building skill set through seeking out professional development opportunities
